ANet needs something at HA like an NPC standing there possibly, that explains each map, the objectives, and some tactics kinda like:

"On Underworld the objective is to annhilate the opposing party."

*show bridge area*

"Under this bridge would be a good place to place a trap. The trap will activate if a person crosses over or under the bridge area. If the oppossing party has people balled closely together under this bridge, you could drop a Meteor Shower"

Something like that would help new people learn about HA and how to play

Im not flaming or anything but why do these "new people" have to have special treatment? Why not learn like we all did, through playing?

Well I agree there shouldn't be any special treatment, it was just a suggestion

A fair comment and no doubt many other people feel the same way.

Leaving aside the issue of team size and dogey builds etc. I think everyone wants a return to the old days of HA/Tombs where you could hardly get into certain districts because so many teams were forming. Ha was alive and well and the journey to HoH meant going through almost every map with few if any skips.

Those days are gone at least for the moment. If we want to bring them back we need to see whats wrong with HA at the minute and then ask some questions.
1)Can it be fixed?
2)If so how?

If you dont think it can be fixed and have giving up all hope fair enough.
If however you think HA can be fixed How becomes the main question.

This thread is Leguma pointing out what he believes to a problem in bringing in new players. (Other threads point out other issues and possible solutions new maps/builds/change of rewards etc as well as just the usual flames).

Yes we all got through our first attempts at HA and worked our way up the pecking order to where we are now. No one is suggestion giving free fame most of the ideas so far are ways of breaking in new players to the HA environment in a more friendly way. If this brings HA back to a fit and healthy state then it would be worth it even if we ourself had to do it the hard way.

6vs6 was a good idea, eventhough it did not solve the problem totaly.
It still take ages to form a group.
However, I suggest that all those who want to play 8vs8 can form an 8 ppl team and when entering the game will be diverted to 8vs8 ha (and likewise 6vs6).
What must be done next, is stop the skipping. If there are not enough teams, you have to w8 just like ra/ta. Right now it is realy stupid, it takes you 1/2 an hour to form a grop and then youre directed to the courthouse cause there are not enough groups. If it took me 1/2 an hour to form a group, I can w8 a minute for next map.

There is a separate thread about HA itself and what needs to be changed/added into it, while this thread discusses things that take place before HA itself and prepare new players for what they are about to face... let's not cross-polenate.

On the subject of explaining the maps, there is a reason why in HA there is a 60 second wait before the map starts, and that is that it gives enough time for the briefing animation to take place. I cannot imagine that an NPC would be more lucrative than the annimation that pups up everytime telling you "this base belongs to your party... etc etc." If the briefing animation is ignored and so will the NPC and proof enough is the fact that there ALREADY is such an NPC in HA.

On the subject of PvE that was touche on earlier, as amusing as some might find it, the Crystal Desert missions are indeed a very good exmple of HA preparation. They familiarize people withthe concept of priest-rez every two minutes, they show an altar and the fact that you have to kill the holding hero before new one can cap, and there is even a relic run mission that unfortunately is less informative because it is an entirely different type of relic run.

The big problem is that these PvE introductions to some of the elements of HA are only present in Prophecies, while Factions and Nightfall are laking them entirely. I know this is because of the PvE crowd complaining about PvE being only a preparation for PvP and not being taken seriously, but it is something that may have perhaps better been addressed in things such as challenge missions. After all, one of the Nightfall challenge missions is pretty much an introduction to GvG and GvG maps.

As amusing as it may sound, perhaps one of the best places where this could have been done is the Hero Battle arena, that has multiple altars. Instead of making it a AB-like cap it could have easily been a HA-like cap and that would have gone a long way to teaching people a few things about altars.

Making it 6v6 would turn down Bbsway , bspike , Balanced . The only thing people could still run would be eventually something with Wota sins , and i hardly can understand how this would make it harder for lower ranked...

god people read the post seriously. The guy said 6v6 or 8v8, it wont change the inevitable demise of HA. Why? because the learning curve is too high to be acessible for beginners. Which is something i agree with.

Youre not gonna get there with just changing 8vs8 to 6vs6. You cant squeeze all the utility u need to win EVERY map out there in a 6 vs 6 team. So in order to make 6 vs 6 happen you will have to fix themaps as well. I doubt anet is gonna go through that hassle since theyre even too shabby to balance skills to improve the current metagame. Last skill update didn't do ANYTHING for HA, resulting in 5 teams playing the exact same build.
